This remarkable tribal carpet from the highlands of Kars stands as a quiet echo of the early 20th century — a piece woven not for markets, but for life itself.

Handwoven around 1900, the rug is made entirely from hand-spun wool, dyed with original plant pigments and complemented by the untouched natural shades of Eastern Anatolian sheep. Its palette is striking yet earthy: warm apricot-dyed orange glows against deep, organic browns — tones that could only come from the flocks and soil of Anatolia.

What makes this piece exceptionally rare is its primitive design language.
Unlike typical Kars carpets — often more structured in color and scale — this example embraces a raw, early aesthetic. The motifs are boldly simple, almost archaic, yet arranged in a balanced and surprisingly harmonious symmetry. It feels closer to the tribal weaving traditions of the Caucasus, making it a beautiful hybrid of Anatolian warmth and Caucasian geometry.

Despite its age, the rug remains in excellent, fully usable condition. It carries not only strong vintage and collector value, but also the practical durability of a rug meant to be lived with — a rare combination.
